World Bank and Switzerland Expand Partnership to Support Ukraine’s Financial Sector Development
The new program, financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), aims to support Supervisory Technology (SupTech) to enhance risk based supervision regime of the National Bank of Ukraine, preserve financial stability and integrity, stimulate access to finance and financial sector diversification, strengthen financial and de-risking support programs for target priority sectors and exporters, and supporting the non-banking sector to create the foundations to unlock alternative financing to the economy.
The program builds on SECO’s ongoing support to F4D through a Remittances and Payments Project (RPP 2.0), aimed at boosting Ukraine’s transition to a cashless economy and the Single Euro Payments Area alignment process. The Swiss contribution comes at a pivotal moment. Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction needs are estimated at US$524 billion over the next decade. A resilient and inclusive financial sector will be critical for restoring stability, supporting private sector investments, creating jobs, and enabling long-term growth.
The agreement, signed by Ambassador Dominique Paravicini, SECO’s Head of Economic Cooperation and Development Division and Pablo Saavedra, the World Bank’s Vice President for the Prosperity vertical during the World Bank Group – IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C, reinforces the strong collaboration between Switzerland and the World Bank.
The World Bank expresses its deep appreciation to the government of Switzerland for the trusted partnership and its continued commitment to supporting the financial sector agenda in Ukraine.
